UNSW Computer Enthusiasts Society, also known as UNSW PCSoc, is a social club at the University of New South Wales founded in September 2015, with the primary aim of providing an opportunity for people to learn, discuss and engage with current and emerging computer hardware technology and culture, through a community of people interested in building and optimising PCs.

Formation

D. Sison, together with Mr X, got the idea in the latter months of 2015. Sison was reluctant to start the society till he determined that there would be a large enough following. The two would remain in regular correspondence till the following year when they had the necessary numbers to support the formation of the society.

As per ARC reqs, 3-5 ppl got together and said yeet!

Following it's formation, the team started a discord server to keep track of members beyond the basic social media channels and to help executive members meet regularly.

Organization

The society is currently affiliated with the University of New South Wales student society organization ARC. It features a team of executives, with one member managing one aspect of the society's operations. Currently the positions are:

  • Co-Presidents, who manage the society's direction as well as the rest of the executive team
  • Secretary, in charge of keeping minutes of executive meetings as well as handling general clerical work
  • Treasurer, manages the society's finances
  • ARC Delegate, handles communication with ARC as well as making sure the society as a whole, adheres to ARC guidelines
  • Marketing Director, responsible for sponsorship opportunities and society merchandising. Also manages the society's various social media channels.

Past executives and founders also seem to have some level of input with regards to the society's direction.

The society's social events largely revolve around its regular meetups and workshops as well as online with it's discord server, currently moderated by the executive team.
